Townsville's Shakespeare Under the Stars has been entrancing audiences for almost thirty years and is a must-see on the North Queensland Arts Calendar.
Producing an outdoor Shakespeare event in regional North Queensland was pioneered by Jean-Pierre Voos who produced and directed the first event with his professional company, TROPIC LINE in 1992. Twelfth Night featured members of the professional ensemble alongside final year Theatre students from JCU as well as the best performers from within the local community. It is this combination of professional, emerging and community actors that TheatreiNQ embraces, driving the continued success of the event and the audience's proud ownership of its long successful history.

THE JEAN-PIERRE AWARDS
The Jean-Pierre Awards began in 2011 to celebrate and honour the people who have championed the Shakespeare Under the Stars event here in North Queensland. There are currently 3 awards, that are given out each year and each award is named in memory of members of our Team:
The J-P Award
- awarded for significant contribution & commitment to the event
The John du Feu "Legend" Award
- awarded for long-term service to the Shakespeare Under the Stars Event
The Martin Gibson Medal
- awarded to a young artist who possess both talent, work ethic and a humble approach to their work.
The original awards were hand-crafted by Raku artist, Gerry O'Connor.
