Playwright comment by Michael Sams

I’ve been writing full-length plays for approximately seven years. Terri was dramaturg on my first full-length script Together (published by Australian Plays Transform). She has kept across my work as I have collaborated with many distinguished dramaturgs and participated in several high-profile playwriting programs. She made an observation about my writing nearly two years ago, that I wasn’t present in my scripts. That moment crystalised a significant change in playwriting style, form, theme and dramatic content for me as a writer. Hunters is the first script resulting from that change. Our collaboration on my first full-length script resulted in a product assessed as quality enough to be published. Together will always hold a special place in my heart. However, I firmly believe that Hunters is a much stronger script. And Hunters would not exist if not for Terri’s insight. She has helped me find my voice as a playwright. I am a decade-long ensemble member of TheatreiNQ, so our working relationship is well established. I know her incredible skills as a long-term, award-winning, nationally-recognised professional theatre practitioner will make Hunters a phenomenal, memorable production.
